In 1954, Professor Chen Zhifo set up the Yunjin Work Research Group, in 1957, the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government approved the formal establishment of the "Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute", in 1982, the Ministry of Light Industry established the "China Brocade Technology Research and Production Experimental Center" in the Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute, and at the same time prepared to build the "China Brocade Craft Exhibition Hall" in the institute.

In 2004, "Nanjing Yunjin Museum" was established, and in 2020, the Nanjing Culture and Tourism Bureau issued an approval document agreeing to change its name to "Nanjing Yunjin Museum of the Past Dynasties". and "Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute" as a set of the same team, two brands. The museum gathers the most representative Yunjin fine physical materials from the Warring States Period to the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the precious silk weaving cultural relics of our country that have been carefully re-weaving by the Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute in recent years, which is a national cultural heritage with unique cultural connotation and ancient scientific and technological knowledge.

In order to better meet the protection and display needs of Nanjing Yunjin Museum, combined with the construction of the Yunjin City AMC Museum Group，with the "1+3+N" structure in Jianye District, the area of the new Yunjin Museum is twice that of the old museum, becoming a window to display Chinese brocade art and a new landmark of Nanjing culture.

The weaving process of Nanjing Yunjin can be roughly divided into design, pattern-drafting, pattern-picking, pattern-knotting, material preparation, loom making, and weaving. The Yunjin wooden loom is 4 meters high, 5.6 meters long, and 1.4 meters wide. It is composed of 1,924 components and requires two skilled craftsmen to operate together. Working eight hours a day, they can only weave about five to six centimeters of Yunjin, so there is a saying that "an inch of Yunjin is worth an inch of gold."

Yunjin brocade has been inherited for more than 1,600 years. As an outstanding presentation of Chinese royal culture, Yunjin represents the highest level of Chinese art and skills in successive dynasties, and is known as the pearl in the crown of Chinese silk weaving skills, "Oriental treasure" and "one of the best in China". In 1957, Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute was established, which was the first professional research institution of arts and crafts approved by New China, and in 2006, Yunjin brocade was listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage.

In 2009, with the continuous efforts and persistence of Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute, Nanjing Yunjin Museum and various parties, after 8 years, The craftsmanship of Nanjing Yunjin Brocade, successfully declared to be included in the UNESCO Representative List of intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Today, Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute and Nanjing Yunjin Museum continue to play the role of heritage protector, adhere to the integrity and innovation, and through more diversified ways of expression, create a brilliant future for the intangible cultural heritage of the Chinese national treasure.
